How to use your branding photos

You decide it's time for new brand photos, you hire your photographer, pore over Pinterest for inspo, hit the mall (or, the Internet) for on-brand outfits, get your hair and makeup done, and finally, have your photoshoot.

That's a lot of effort.

Then, you get your brand photos back, and the first reaction is usually something like, "Omg, I'm OBSESSED! This is exactly what I wanted, I can't wait to share them!"

And almost every time, the very first thing my clients do is update their profile picture. Which I love! But then, a few weeks go by, and I don't see the photos again.

If you invested in brand photography, I want those images working for you long after the "new photos!" excitement fades. Brand photos aren't supposed to live in a Google Drive folder— they're supposed to support your visibility, recognition, and growth.

In this blog post, I'm going to walk you through how I recommend using your brand photos so you get the most out of both your time and money.

Start with consistency

Before you even think about posting them all over the Internet, update your platforms.

Use the same headshot across:

  • Instagram

  • Facebook

  • LinkedIn

  • Pinterest

  • Your email signature

  • Your website "About" page

I know it can be tempting to use as many new photos as possible, but brand recognition is built through repetition. When someone sees the same cohesive image of you across multiple spaces, it builds familiarity and trust. Which is HUGE.

don't do a giant photo dump

One of the most common ways I see brand photos underused is through a huge photo dump on social media. I know it can be overwhelming to receive 50+ images in your gallery, love them all, and then think, "Wait...what do I do now?!"

But you don't want to choose 20 of them, caption the post "New brand photos!" and then think you're done.

Instead of burning through all of your new photos in one week, space them out and think long-term.

Your brand photos should become part of your regular content rhythm, not just a one-time announcement.

Use your branding photos across all platforms

Brand photos aren't just for announcing your brand photos!

They should show up naturally in all of the places your business already exists.

Use them in content like:

  • Educational posts

  • Personal stories

  • Testimonials

  • Service announcements

  • Blog headers

  • Email newsletters

  • Website design

  • Media kit

  • Pinterest graphics

  • Printed materials

The more content your audience sees your face attached to your ideas, the stronger your brand becomes.

I worked with Amy (a mom and a micro-influencer) who does this really well. She regularly uses her photos in her Instagram stories as backgrounds when she asks questions or shares thoughts. It feels cohesive, intentional, and immediately recognizable, which is exactly what we're going for.

Make your photos last

You don't need new brand photos every few months—they should last for at least a few years (unless you rebrand and totally change the aesthetic!).

So instead of posting your favorites all at once, think about how your gallery can support you over time.

Here are a few ways to keep things fresh:

  • Rotate images intentionally instead of posting them all in one week

  • Assign certain photos to recurring content (for example, a weekly series or monthly update)

  • Add simple text overlays to align with different topics

  • Turn a still images into a short Reel with subtle movement

There are so many ways to utilize your photos. All you have to do is think about them creatively!

post them proudly

Over the years of photographing business owners, I've noticed that the biggest barrier to using brand photos isn't strategy, but confidence. Clients will tell me they don't want to post "too many" photos of themselves, or they wonder if it feels like too much. And sometimes they'll even ask, "Do people actually care?"

And I'm here to tell you, YES! They do.

People connect with people ... especially in service-based businesses. Because your audience isn't just investing in what you offer—they're investing in YOU.

So go ahead and post them! Don't let your gorgeous new brand photos sit in a folder on your laptop.

When I photograph brand sessions, my goal isn't just to give you an amazing gallery (although, I will). It's to create images that feel aligned with who you are and how you want to show up in your business.

If you’re a small business owner, creative, or entrepreneur in the Boston area who’s ready to elevate how you show up online, I’d love to help.

Brand sessions with me are collaborative and thoughtful. We’ll talk through your business, your goals, and how you actually plan to use your images, so when your gallery arrives, you know exactly what to do next.

If that sounds like what you’re looking for, you can learn more about my branding sessions or reach out through my contact form to get started!
